NorCal SCI Proud: Sacramento's Char Vine ready to take on the journey of lifetime
We consider ourselves pretty lucky here at NorCal SCI ever since our paths crossed with Sacramento resident and paraplegic, Char Vine. Not only have we found an incredible friend but she has been an advocate for those with disabilities, a peer mentor and an individual determined to push her limits at every challenge that comes her way. And perhaps no challenge has been greater for her to meet than her upcoming 117k wheelchair hike in Spain on a trail called Camino de Santiago.
Char's spinal cord injury occurred in 2000 when she took a 65-foot jump on a snowboard and landed unexpectedly on her back, breaking her T-11 vertebrae and leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. But her injury has not deterred her from pursuing a very physically active lifestyle. She loves outdoor adventures, mostly in the mountains where you will probably catch her kayaking, biking, swimming, hiking, snowmobiling, or wheeling.
Just this past week, Char’s story caught the attention of Sacramento-based CBS Television affiliate which featured this 2-minute piece on her. Char’s trip starts on Sept. 28th and she has already launched her blog capturing the details of this journey. You can read it HERE.
We’re proud of Char’s accomplishments and perseverance and wish her the best as she makes this incredible journey of a lifetime.
