NorCal SCI's donated durable medical equipment program full of valuable items
It’s been 18 months since we opened up a storage unit in Los Gatos that now houses most of the Durable Medical Equipment that has been donated to us and even if we had three times our current 150 sq. ft. space, it’d still be jam-packed with more equipment just as it is right now. This has become an even more challenging issue since the onset of the pandemic when several Bay Area agencies that would normally accept such goods, stopped doing so, leaving NorCal SCI as one of the few organizations in the Bay Area for people to call on for donations. Of course, it helps that we can also issue a donation receipt for potential tax deduction purposes.
And right now, our current storage is packed full of some outstanding donated equipment that we would love to find good homes for. We would also entertain accepting additional equipment that, depending on the size, we might be able to accept or if we can’t, we’ll advertise them until we find someone interested. As usual, we get some gems that are quickly requested, such as the $2,500 nearly-new electric patient lift, the $2,000 ramp, the $10,000 barely-used power wheelchair just to mention a few.
Other than the home page of our website, the “Donated Medical Equipment” section is the most visited part of the site, so we’re pleased that people are paying attention but we’d like to encourage the SCI community to keep checking for items they truly need and to request them if it would benefit them. Alternatively, if you have items in good condition that you truly have no need for, drop us a line and we’d be able to tell you if it’s something that we would accept.
