For some time now, we have known about the Kelly Brush Foundation (KBF) and have told different people seeking funding for adaptive sports equipment about its grant program. More recently, NorCal SCI co-founder, Nick, reached out directly to KBF as he was intrigued by their success at raising money at their Inspire!San Francisco fundraising event this past Fall. As luck would have it, their executive director, Zeke Davisson, was going to be in San Francisco this past Thursday, so he jumped at the chance to meet him right in the shadow of the impressive Salesforce Tower in San Francisco.

In fact, they’re currently seeking applicants interested in grants as part of their Spring Active Fund grant cycle which is now accepting applications thru March 31, 2020. They believe in the power of sport and recreation to foster inclusion and overcome the barriers of paralysis and have helped over 900 people from 48 states purchase handcycles, monoskis, sport chairs, racing chairs, hockey sleds, and much more. To apply for a grant, go HERE.

“As we sipped our coffees, we realized we shared the same passion for supporting the SCI community,” described Nick. “I appreciated Zeke's candid description of how their organization has carved out a very successful model by empowering individuals with SCI to lead an active and engaged lifestyle primarily by providing grants for active sports equipment,” he continued. As many of you know, this specialized equipment is expensive and KBF’s grants play a vital role in allowing individuals to continue to be active in the sports they love. They are one of the fewest organizations in the country offering these types of grants.

NorCal SCI will be exploring opportunities with Zeke and his team on how we can best collaborate to support the SCI Community, especially here in Northern California.
