NorCal SCI helps organize SCI Peer Support program at CPMC Davies Campus in SF

One of the cornerstones of our organization involves offering SCI peer support and to that end, we have developed numerous channels to offer that throughout Northern California. We still have much work to do to make it as widely available as possible due to the size of the state and how far off and out people live. Closer to home, we’re really proud of a group of devoted friends of NorCal SCI who have answered our call to provide Peer Support to patients with SCI who go through rehab at the California Pacific Medical Center’s Davies Campus in San Francisco.

This initiative started last summer when we met with the rehab leadership team at CPMC to introduce the various programs and services of NorCal SCI and how we can help support the SCI population there. The hospital sees somewhere between 50-60 cases of SCI per year. Among the topics we discussed was providing peer support to their SCI patients. The idea was warmly received and over the course of the last few months, we’ve been working with them to organize the processes while recruiting potential peer supporters.

We’re thrilled to introduce a diverse group of these individuals who will be going through several steps en route to becoming official volunteers at the hospital where they can perform their duties as peer supporters. They include:

Steve Sanchez
Judy Smith
Nils Jorgensen
Matt Leonard
Steve Dalton
Janine Goldberg
Ashley Lyn Olson
Nick & Franklin (NorCal SCI co-founders)

Our goal is to be fully functional and ready to support CPMC by May of this year. We’re grateful to the rehab staff at CPMC for their confidence and interest and, of course, to these individuals volunteering themselves for a much-needed service.
