After awarding some $60,000 in Road To Recovery grants to 31 individuals with SCI in 2019, we wanted to help get the word out that the grant program offered by NorCal SCI is back again and we’re encouraging those individuals who meet the program’s requirements to consider applying. The grants of up to $2,000 can be used for therapeutic activities, acquiring durable medical equipment or making minor home modifications.

We are typically seeking Northern California residents who don’t have the financial means or lack proper medical insurance coverage to assist them with any of those types of needs. Another key criteria we look for is a high level of motivation and a solid set of attainable goals and objectives for the applicant to achieve.

One of our favorite stories involving a grant recipient belongs to Sacramento area resident, Raymon Sellers. Here’s his story: “The Road To Recovery program has been huge in my life in more than just a financial way but also in a mental way. I was awarded a grant to attend SCI-FIT which was huge due to the cost and insurance not covering it.  By being able to attend SCI-FIT, I went from using a Hoyer lift for my transfers to using a transfer board while losing 25 lbs., thanks to a new diet also developed by a dietitian provided by NorCal SCI. They have supported me with tremendous amounts of information to help me reach the goals that I set for myself, such as going back to school, driving, etc.  Thanks NorCal SCI! The hustle won’t stop, I promise.”

We think there are more Raymon Sellers out there that we’d like to support. To learn more about the program’s requirements and to apply, click HERE.
