This past Friday marked the official public unveiling and celebration of several pieces of original art created by artist Mio Dzakula and funded by Global Wealth Partners (GWP) that were donated to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The event drew sports legends such as soccer player, Brandi Chastain, and Bay Area’s iconic Krazy George who were also featured in two of Mio’s creations that spanned across Bay Area sports legends as well as marine mammals, space images made possible by the Hubble Telescope as well as beauty of the nature.

The incredible collection of 20 pieces are displayed across three floors of the Sobrato Pavilion at SCVMC and culminates three years of work that was initiated by NorCal SCI co-founder, Nick Struthers, who initially introduced the concept to the Valley Medical Center Foundation’s CEO, Chris Wilder. Nick was able to connect Brian King, a Partner at GWP and an incredible supporter of NorCal SCI, with Chris and in no time, the two had agreed that this would be an incredible display of art at the hospital’s brand new rehabilitation building.

The 20 pieces are on display throughout the first, third and fourth floors at the Sobrato Pavilion and include sports personalities such as Steph Curry and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors, the historic “The Catch” of 49ers Dwight Clark which are located in the rehabilitation gym. On the fourth floor, images of whales, jellyfish and kelp forests continue the Monterey Bay aquatic theme.

On the SCI inpatient 3rd floor, amazing images from the Hubble Telecope (which was designed and built in Sunnyvale) adorn the walls there. The vibrant colors Mio incorporated into each piece can bring a sense of transcendence in the rehabilitation environment contrasting that to the otherwise sedated walls of the hospital.

We are grateful to Brian, Chris and Mio who worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition, working with the various departments at the hospital who were equally excited to have the opportunity of installing such world-class artistic pieces at the new building.
