ReWalk offers trial of its 6.0 Exoskeleton at Livermore Hub
The folks behind the ReWalk Exoskeleton are now holding “Clinic Days” held at the Stanford Valley Care in Livermore offering trials of the ReWalk 6.0 Personal Exoskeleton for the members of the SCI community that meet their criteria and screening. The ReWalk Personal 6.0 System, designed for all day use at home and in the community, is a wearable robotic exoskeleton that provides powered hip and knee motion to enable individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI) to stand upright and walk.
The battery-powered system features a light, wearable exoskeleton with motors at the hip and knee joints. The ReWalker controls movement using subtle changes in his/her center of gravity. A forward tilt of the upper body is sensed by the system, which initiates the first step. Repeated body shifting generates a sequence of steps which mimics a functional natural gait of the legs. The customizable exoskeleton is configured specifically for each user and is the first exoskeleton to receive FDA clearance for personal and rehabilitation use in the United States. Check out their FAQ PAGE for more info.
Now, we know what you’re probably thinking. How much and who pays for it? Since the device is FDA-approved, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs covers the device for qualified veterans. For Workers Compensation cases and private insurance coverage (which varies from one private insurance provider to another), ReWalk has a dedicated reimbursement team which can discuss this process and potentially assist with your submission for coverage.
Financing is available through their partner, Americorp Financial, that can consult on a wide variety of plans to meet the individual's needs.
