Nutrition & SCI: Introduction to a healthy diet for those with a spinal cord injury in July 29 virtual class

If you’ve spent any time browsing through the posts on most spinal cord injury Facebook groups, you will always come across those with SCI who write about their struggles with weight gain post-injury (including the para belly and quad belly) and how they’re at their wits end with trying to stave off the inevitable. We have heard you and are pleased to present a virtual class on Wed., July 29th at 6:30 p.m. PT led by truly one of the most knowledgeable sources of information on the dietary needs of the SCI population, Shelley Wood, a registered dietitian nutritionist, a lifelong advocate of nutrition who also works with the SCI population at one of the top SCI rehab hospitals in the country.

This session is part of a series that Shelley will be presenting on this critically important topic over the next several months. In her first session, Shelley will introduce you to a healthy diet and what it looks like and the benefits it delivers. She will address and break down all the fad diets as well as the unknown damage from food restrictions such as the Keto diet. If you truly care about your overall health (and weight), Shelley’s sessions should not be missed.

In addition to her B.S. in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University, she obtained her Master’s in Public Health in 2016 from the University of New England. She has spent the past seven years working in the rehab dept. at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.
