Emergency Preparedness: no more an option but a requirement for those with disabilities

ER.png

For people with disabilities, the events of the past few months represent a sobering reminder of managing daily life during a pandemic where shortages of many supplies, equipment and medications, not to mention the much longer wait time to acquire them, requires more planning. And for those living in California, the annual wildfires represent yet another level of complexity to truly plan for an emergency and follow through with it and that was illustrated over the past few weeks as we’ve been hit, once again, with a relentless number of significant wildfires.

Virtually every Independent Living Center (ILC) offers programs and workshops on emergency preparedness. We strongly encourage you to look up and contact the ILC serving your COUNTY HERE and find out what types of educational programs they offer. Don’t wait for the emergency to present itself to you. Act now.

Additionally, the folks at Linking Employment, Abilities and Potential (LEAP) are offering a free 3-part webinar series called “Survive and Thrive, Emergency Preparedness for People with Disabilities" running on Sept. 2nd, 9th and 16th from 11-12:30 p.m. PT. You can register for it HERE.
