UC Berkeley researchers seeking individuals with disabilities receiving Social Security benefits for study

social security.jpg

A team of student investigators at UC Berkeley are conducting a research study to learn about how disabled people living in the Bay Area receiving social security disability benefits make ends meet. These researchers are interested to learn from your experiences of navigating the guidelines of Social Security programs, work-related restrictions and opportunities, and the effects of it all on your daily life.

The researchers are seeking to enroll English-speaking adults between the ages of 18-65 receiving social security benefits (SSI or SSDI). Participants are expected to spend 1-2 hours participating in a 1:1 interview via phone or video conference as well as participate in one group to provide feedback on initial analysis with investigator via phone or video conference. You will receive up to $40 compensation for your time participating in this study. $10 is provided for each part of the study to cover telecommunications costs.

This study is being conducted under Professor Karen Nakamura, a disability studies professor and local disability community member and has been approved by UC Berkeley Institutional Review Board (IRB). All privacy mechanisms and safeguards will be reviewed individually with participants during an informed consent process.

If you have any questions or are interested in participating, please contact the Student Investigator: Katie Savin, MSW at (415) 322-8750 or Email: katie_savin@berkeley.edu
