Seems like there's a new fad diet every season, promising more energy, fat loss and healthier this and that. But are they the right approach to a body impacted by a spinal cord injury? In this session, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Shelley Wood, discusses the most current fad diets - what they are, what they promise, and the health implications behind them (short term and long term). She will also discuss eating disorders and intuitive eating as well as more science-backed eating patterns for overall health in those with SCI. You can catch it all on Tues., March 23rd at 5 p.m. PST which you can register for HERE.

Among the various types of diets that Shelley plans on addressing are: keto, paleo, carnivore, intermittent fasting, low-fat diet, Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig, Mediterranean, and plant-based pattern just to name some. NOTE: Those who have eating disorders should consider avoiding this session as some of the information can be triggering.

This presentation is funded through a grant by the Reeve Foundation and you must register in advance to attend. Once you register, you will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail from us which you should keep for access information to the virtual event.

Shelley is a lifelong advocate of nutrition. When she isn’t working with her patients, she can be found in her greenhouse or kitchen. She obtained her B.S. in Nutritional Science from San Jose State University in 2012 and has been working at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, one of the top spinal cord injury rehabilitation hospitals in the country, since 2013.  She currently works in the outpatient clinic of the hospital seeing primarily those with SCI and also spends time working with complex GI issues in the outpatient gastroenterology clinic.
