Reeve Foundation to host free Women's Health Week webinars on May 13 & 14
The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation's National Paralysis Resource Center (PRC) is offering two live webinars on barriers to reproductive health for women living and aging with paralysis during Women's Health Week on May 11th and 13th. The PRC is a free, comprehensive, national source of informational support for people living with paralysis and their caregivers and their primary goals are to foster involvement in the community, promote health and improve quality of life.
“Empowering Women Living with Paralysis: Breaking Barriers to Reproductive Health” will explore how women living with paralysis can empower themselves to access the care they need and deserve. Presenters Cody Unser and Dani Izzie will discuss the various barriers to routine OB/GYN care and prenatal care, provide strategies for overcoming them, and share their personal experiences as women living with paralysis in addressing the challenges they have faced in obtaining reproductive healthcare. “Women and Aging with Paralysis” will provide a much-needed exploration of this important topic to help women better understand the aging process and realize that they are not alone in facing the changes brought on by it. The webinar will feature a panel discussion among four women living with paralysis who will share their personal experiences with aging and offer their insights, perspectives, and advice to women facing similar challenges. Topics to be covered include the physical aspects of aging, such as difficulty transferring, falling and shoulder pain, as well as the impacts on mental health that result from the loss of independence, loneliness and grief that come with aging; strategies for addressing these challenges will also be discussed.
