Adaptive Rowing Open House for those with spinal cord injury to be held Aug. 22 in Redwood City

The Bair Island Aquatic Center (BIAC) in Redwood City is once again hosting an Adaptive Rowing Open House for those with a Spinal Cord Injury on Sun., Aug. 22nd to introduce potential new rowers to their adaptive coaches and the boathouse, work 1-on-1 with a coach on a rowing ergometer and learn how to adapt it to your individual abilities. Hourly sessions start at 9 a.m. with the last session concluding at 1 p.m. and we encourage you to register as soon as possible HERE as space is limited. Organizers have asked that if you encounter a full session, go ahead and add your name on the waiting list as they’d like to accommodate as many participants as possible.

For those interested in rowing on the water, you will be able to ask questions about the boats, equipment and BIAC’s adaptive program. However, you won’t be getting into the water right off the bat. The Open House is free to all with a spinal cord injury with each class limited to three participants. USRowing, in partnership with the Craig H. Neilsen Foundation’s Quality of Life Grant, selected BIAC as one of five clubs in the U.S. to participate. The goal of the grant is to increase the number of individuals with spinal cord injury who row for exercise, recreation, and competition across the United States. For any questions, e-mail Kerry at outreach@gobair.org.
