Digestive system and bowels challenging you post-SCI? Check out the Sept. 28 GI System presentation

The gastrointestinal system’s function following a spinal cord injury is quite complex, misunderstood and downright frustrating. For those with SCI, unpredictable bowel movements, constipation and diarrhea become extremely disruptive, contributing to a significant impact on one’s quality of life. Join Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, Shelley Wood on Tues., Sept. 28th presentation at 5 p.m. PST and get a general overview of the GI system, mouth to rectum, discuss the gut microbiota and dive into specifics pertaining to those with SCI. You may register for this presentation HERE.

Further discussion will cover areas that are problematic for people including reflux, irritable bowel syndrome and diseases, lactose intolerance, Celiac disease, fatty liver and liver cirrhosis, diabetic gastroparesis, and considerations for those with colostomies. Diet and the importance of nutrition will be shared for each condition and sprinkled throughout the presentation. Basically, the more you understand your GI system, the better your quality of life.

This presentation is part of our continuing “NorCal SCI Presents: Virtual is the New Reality Series” funded thanks to the generosity of our donors and you must register in advance to attend. Once you register, you will immediately receive a confirmation e-mail from us which you should keep for access information to the virtual event.
