NorCal SCI hosts SCI Virtual Consultation on March 19th

Individuals with a spinal cord injury live in many Northern California communities underserved by medical professionals with specific expertise in SCI which is why NorCal SCI is once again pleased to host its SCI Virtual Consultation day on Sat., March 19th from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help address this issue. Each consultation provides a private 30-minute Zoom Video meeting with a team made up of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist. Nurse Practitioner and Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, all with expertise and experiences working with the SCI population. We offer a limited number of appointments, so to apply, please complete the application HERE.

The Nurse Practitioner, Rebecca Hummel-Moore, specializes in spasticity and is knowledgeable in skin care and bowel and bladder care while the OT, Carole Adler Hughes, and PT, Erin Hallett, have between them many decades of experience treating individuals specifically with SCI/D. The Registered Dietitian, Shelley Wood, works directly with those with SCI on an outpatient basis. All four are Advisory Board Members of NorCal SCI.

The consultation involves a 30-minute Zoom session with the team and any recommendations will be communicated electronically after the appointment.  Consultations will be scheduled between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. and we will expect the participants to be able to use Zoom and be able to control the device and camera or have a caregiver or family member present to assist with using the device and camera. This is important as this will allow our team to view such things as type of wheelchair used, seating position and assess range of motion and other requirements they would use to assess each individual.
