A New Perspective in Berkeley: Upright Mobility Recap

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the Ed Roberts Campus in Berkeley became a hub of movement and discovery. Hosted by BORP, the Spinal Cord Injury meetup featured a hands-on presentation titled "Upright Mobility in Action," led by the team at Matia Mobility.

The atmosphere was buzzing as participants gathered over a light dinner to explore a different way of navigating the world. Sales representative Ron Lee introduced the demo unit, explaining not just the mechanics of the motorized standing device, but the profound health and social benefits of being at eye level. From understanding insurance navigation and VA benefits to identifying who makes a prime candidate for the technology, the session offered a comprehensive look at how these devices bridge the gap between sitting and standing.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the interactive demo. One by one, interested attendees transitioned into a standing position, testing the device’s ability to handle both indoor precision and outdoor versatility. The room was filled with smiles as participants experienced the independence of upright movement—some for the first time in years. By the end of the session, many felt the technology is as practical as it is life-changing.
