Adaptive Cycling in Golden Gate Park

Our daughter’s visit home recently coincided with the opening of the Adaptive Cycling at Golden Gate Park so we decided to go. She’d. been once before and so enjoyed the experience. It was a beautiful day and I’d like to share the experience to encourage you, our community, to check it out.

Parking is an issue but there is an accessible parking lot behind the bandshell for 20 vehicles. It was full when we got there at 2pm (I recommend getting there as early as possible) so we parked in a paying accessible parking spot in the underground parking lot HERE.

BORP hosts these events and are so helpful with figuring out which bicycle works best for you. They are behing the bandshell HERE.

It’s first-come, first-serve and open to riders of all experience levels. Jo and her Dad ended up on a side by side tandem which allowed them to sit together and enjoy cycling round the park. We tend to forget how beautiful the park is - there are many pathways to cycle around to see all the flowers, bushes, statues and trees. We took some snacks and sat on the grass after, enjoying the weather and people watching!

This is all free, on Saturdays, 10am - 3pm from June through October, thanks to BORP, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), San Francisco Recreation & Parks, and Good Karma Bikes. No registration needed.

We highly recommend taking some time on a Saturday to try out these bicycles. It’s a great experience and worth the drive! I put together a short video for you to see how fun it was.
