Age 16–21? SCI? It’s Time to Redefine What’s Possible!

Transitioning into adulthood is a major milestone, but it comes with unique challenges for those living with a spinal cord injury. True Grit SCI is designed to meet those challenges head-on. Specifically created for young adults between the ages of 16 and 21, this program is designed to give you support and develop your confidence as you transition into independent living. It’s a community built on the idea that an injury shouldn't pause your future—it’s just a different way of navigating it.

The centerpiece of the program is an exciting, week-long experience hosted at Rutgers University. Participants get a genuine taste of "college life" by living in dorms and navigating a busy campus, all while supported by expert clinicians and peer mentors. From mastering the latest assistive technology to exploring adaptive sports, the week focuses on practical, real-world skills. It’s a safe, high-energy environment where you can problem-solve, gain independence, and connect with a tribe of peers who understand your journey.

The wait is over: registration for the 2026 season officially opened January 1st. Best of all, applying is completely free, and if you are accepted, the entire program costs only $50. This is an incredible opportunity to start your year with a community dedicated to growth and independence without a heavy financial burden.
