On the heels of the 2026 Reeve Summit, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is hosting an upcoming presentation in the Bay Area featuring President and CEO Maggie Goldberg as the keynote presenter. To help individuals and families navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of spinal cord injury support and innovation, she will be presenting the foundation's vital resources, advocacy initiatives, and national paralysis health programs firsthand. The event takes place on June 11 at 5:30 PM at SCI-FIT Dublin. Light refreshments will be served, and individuals living with paralysis, caregivers, families, and healthcare professionals are all welcome to attend this unique opportunity to connect directly with national leadership and fellow community members.
This presentation comes at a time when global research momentum is shifting rapidly, translating into highly tangible quality-of-life advancements. A premier example of this acceleration is SCI Ventures, a groundbreaking philanthropy initiative co-founded by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation. Operating as a first-of-its-kind fund focused entirely on breakthrough therapies, SCI Ventures targets near-term functional improvements and long-term biological repair, fast-tracking the jump from laboratory science to actual human clinical trials.
Rather than focusing solely on long-term mobility cures, these current initiatives prioritize crucial autonomic functions that impact daily independence, such as neuropathic pain management and bladder control. For instance, investments from SCI Ventures are currently backing early-stage therapies like EG 427, a targeted gene therapy designed to treat dysfunctional bladder, recently featured here on the NorCal SCI website. Additionally, they are funding research on NVG-291, a therapy showing significant potential for true neurorepair and improved bladder management. These developments heavily align with localized efforts already underway in Northern California, such as the regional clinical trial testing advanced pacemakers to restore bowel and bladder function without traditional nerve cutting.
