Smart Home Independence Package Program is Open for Applications

Imagine turning on the lights, adjusting the thermostat, or locking your door, with just your voice. We at NorCal SCI want to make that everyday reality possible for you—at absolutely no cost—through our Smart Home Independence Package (SHIP) program.

NorCal SCI is pleased to announce that applications for the SHIP program are now open. We are accepting new applications from individuals who would benefit from no-cost installation of voice-controlled lighting, locks, thermostats, sensors, or emergency alerts. Priority is given to those with financial constraints.

To apply, you must:

  • Live with a spinal cord injury

  • Reside in Northern California

  • Be 18 years or older

  • Have current access to wi-fi in your home

Applications may be submitted at any time at norcalsci.org/smart-home-independence-package-2026
