Zoom Discussion on Aging with SCI
April 19th from 1pm-5pm Eastern Time (10am-2pm PST), Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia are inviting people with chronic spinal cord injuries to join them for a discussion.
Internal Medicine and Rehabilitation Medicine at Sidney Kimmel Medical College in Philadelphia care for people with chronic disabilities, many of whom have SCI.
Patients recently reflected on the fact that they’re part of the first generation to survive and remain healthy for decades after injury. They also say their co-existing conditions have changed over the decades. Their pain, their bladder function, their blood pressure. They say that their doctors often find these changes baffling and aren’t quite sure how to help manage them.
They’ll have 4 physician presenters—experts in bladder management, bone health/preservation, blood pressure control/autonomic dysreflexia, and pain. They’ll each share a couple of quick stories from their own practice—what they’ve seen from “old injuries”—but are going to spend most of their time fielding questions from conference attendees and facilitating discussions about what YOU’VE found effective.
They want participants to be both learners and teachers. To share their own experiences with one another and with the physicians who attend the conference. We also hope that some research projects will flow from this effort that will allow us to better understand the concerns of people aging with SCI.
