Many people do have a choice to where they can do rehab and the purpose of this report is to give vital information to ensure you or your loved one gets the best possible start on the recovery journey.

After a person has stabilized following a spinal cord injury, they will then go to a specialized hospital called a rehabilitation center. While the nearest facility may be the most convenient, and may offer many advantages in terms of support from family and friends, it may not offer the level of service needed in a complex injury or disease. Since the Rehabilitation Center began treating individuals with spinal cord injuries in 1941, thousands of men, women, adolescents and children have trusted us with their care. The high numbers of patients translate directly into more experience across all aspects of rehabilitation which, in turn, helps create better patient outcomes after leaving the Rehabilitation Center. We maintain specialty programs in Recreational Therapy, Peer Support as well as a 10-bed Specialty Respiratory Unit, with some of the best outcomes in the nation for vent weaning of persons with SCI.

The Center is affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine and has been serving SCI/D since 1974. We provide rehabilitation, specialized services, and coordinate lifetime care for veterans and active duty military with injury or disease of the spinal cord in many of the westerns states of the USA. Some California residents decide on doing their rehab at Craig Hospital in Colorado as it is ranked in the top 10 nationally by US News and World Report for Rehabilitation. We have not visited the facility but is certainly an option if you have the financial resources.

Craig’s patient outcomes are some of the best in the field of rehabilitative medicine, and half of Craig's patients come from outside of Colorado. Craig offers up to thirty days of free housing for outpatients and families of newly injured spinal cord injury or brain injury rehabilitation inpatients who live more than 60 miles from Denver.
