The SMART Way
Join the Disability Services and Legal Center (DSLC) on their next sponsored trip down to San Rafael via the new SMART train. The fully accessible train can unlock new and exciting vistas for people with disabilities. The event will take place on Wednesday, October 31 with the train leaving Santa Rosa at 9:15 am from the downtown SMART station, returning at 3:30 pm. Inside the Disability Community
The Marin Center for Independent Living (MCIL) is hosting the opening of a showing of photographs by Penngrove resident Anthony Tusler on Friday, October 12 from 4-6 pm in San Rafael. The showing is termed “Inside the Disability Community”. Twenty one photographs will go on semi-permanent exhibit at the newly remodeled offices of the MCIL. Executive Director Eli Gelardin wants to recognize the talent and skills of disabled artists while providing images that celebrate the disability experience for the clients and staff of the agency. MCIL is located at 710 4th Street opposite the San Rafael Transit Center, 710 4th St, San Rafael, CA 94901, (415) 459-6245. All are welcome. There is no fee. For information call (415) 459-6245.

he National Park Service invites you to a public forum on the accessibility of Bay Area National Parks. Join them on November 4, 2018 to learn, share and improve accessibility for everyone. There will be presentations from: Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Point Reyes National Seashore, and Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail. The event will be held at the Ed Roberts Campus (3075 Adeline, Berkeley near the Ashby BART Station). Doors will be open from 12-4 pm with presentations at 1 pm and the Information fair from 2-4 pm. NORCAL SCI DME Inventory
NORCAL SCI began accepting and posting donated durable medical equipment some eight months ago and they continue to see a healthy supply and demand for some great equipment from the SCI community. They currently have two Hoyer lifts in very good condition, multiple power wheelchairs, a scooter, a couple of shower chairs and benches and walkers.

Progress in Louisville
It’s the latest advance in a new approach to treating spinal cord injuries developed at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.

Tommy Hilfiger Expands Disability Friendly Clothing Line
Tommy Hilfiger is expanding its innovative disability-friendly clothing initiative by unveiling a new line that includes a variety of new and stylish pieces. In 2016, Tommy Hilfiger partnered with a nonprofit founded by Mindy Scheier, a mother whose child has muscular dystrophy, to create a clothing line designed for children with disabilities. Mission of the Sonoma-Marin SCI Support Group

To assist those newly injured with spinal cord injury or disease as well as those who continue to be affected by long-standing disabilities. We meet the third Monday of the month at the Azure Apartments Clubhouse, 5 Indigo Drive - Petaluma from 4:00 to 5:30 pm.

We are here to support each other in every way possible by providing useful, up-to-date information about services and products as well as an atmosphere that allows for discussion of personal challenges and solutions to everyday problems.
