NorCal SCI meets up with the Paralyzed Veterans of America staff

Last week, Nick Struthers and Carl McGrew of NorCal SCI met up with the Bay Area and Western Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America (BAWPVA) up in Palo Alto.

Kory Amaral, Executive Director, gave Nick and Carl an overview of the group. "The Bay Area & Western Chapter is a non-profit Veterans organization that serves veterans with spinal cord injury or disease in Northern California and Hawaii. We focus on 5 major programs: Advocacy & Legislation, Hospital Liaison, Sports & Recreation, Research & Education, and Communication," said Amaral.  The Chapter has been around since the early 1960s.

Nick and Carl were able to give Kory more information on Peer Support and Peer Mentoring programs ranging from United Spinal Association, Reeve Foundation and local support groups to how the best rehab centers in the U.S. ran their programs.

NorCal SCI is excited to be able to support BAWPVA and look forward to supporting both the military and civilian SCI communities.
