Ability Tools Exchange a great source of adaptive equipment

Individuals with a spinal cord injury are often frustrated over the lack of medical insurance coverage when it comes to specialized medical equipment or tools that would help make their life easier to manage. Want a shower bench? Good luck. Want a standing frame? Ha ha ha. And the list goes on and on. But there is a well-kept secret out there that could help alleviate many of these issues and it’s called Ability Tools. It is dedicated to expanding the accessibility of tools, resources and technology that will help increase independence and improve personal productivity.

One of the neat benefits they offer is their AT Exchange forum where you can have access to a wide variety of goods that are available for free, to borrow for up to 30 days or for sale at a very low price. Often, families of a person with a new case of SCI struggle to find things in a timely fashion to make the residence of the injured person accessible before they’re discharged. Or they’re unsure of the long-term use of a certain piece of equipment or if it’s the right fit. For example, ramps are often needed to provide access to the person with SCI. Guess what? AT Exchange can loan ramps for 30 days and you can renew it if needed. This way, you’ll have something quickly and without spending any money while you figure out a long-term solution.

Here’s where you can access their inventory of equipment available: https://exchange.abilitytools.org/

Even if the equipment is located elsewhere, they can help have it delivered to where you live. Once you’ve set up an account, you’re off and running.
