Abilities Expo 2019: And so goes another year of new products and services for the disability community
It’s truly the most anticipated event of the year for the disability community and once again, it did not disappoint. The Abilities Expo, held in San Mateo this past weekend, drew people from several hundred miles away since along with its sister show in Los Angeles, they are the major shows that serve Californians with disabilities (no disrespect to our friends at DSLC who also put on a great show).
Now, in case you weren’t able to attend in person or didn’t get a chance to see a certain exhibitor, here’s the LINK to the complete listing of all the vendors and their contact details. These events are great for a lot of reasons. If it’s wheelchairs, you’ll see most of the major manufacturers under one rood. If it’s transportation, same. If it’s outdoors recreational activities, you’d find their representatives there, too. And, it’s also a great opportunity to learn a lot about new and up and coming products.
One bit of major news that our good friend, Mark Wellman of No Barriers, shared with us was that the 2020 No Barriers Summit will be held in San Francisco. This past summer, the event was held in Lake Tahoe. Though details are being finalized, one potential location is Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. More on that to come.
But above all, the Expo is also a great opportunity to see old friends again. At our NorCal SCI booth, we met many old friends, new faces with spinal cord injuries and witnessing the positive transformation of some from one year to another in their journey to recovery.
The 2020 Abilities Expo is scheduled to return to San Mateo the weekend of Oct. 16-18, so mark it on your calendar.
