SEX WEEK: NorCal SCI presents 3-part virtual program exploring sexuality after SCI Oct. 26-30

It’s one of the least-covered topics during a person’s stay in rehab following a spinal cord injury and, depending on where you did your rehab, you may not even get any training or discussion about sexuality after SCI. One of the first thoughts is often, “will I be able to have sex?” Talking about sex and intimacy can be challenging following an injury and may not seem as important as some of the other medical challenges of SCI. By collaborating with two subject professionals, we’re pleased to offer “Sex Week”, a three-part free virtual presentation as part of “NorCal SCI Presents: Virtual is the New Reality Series” addressing female and male sexuality (in separate hour-long sessions) followed by a third session on sexuality in a relationship following SCI. All presentations will use adult language and are intended for mature audiences .

Lisa Skye Carle

“Sexuality for women after a spinal cord injury” - Monday, Oct. 26th - 5-6 p.m. PT: Led by Lisa Skye Carle, an Occupational Therapist, Sexual Health Clinician, and founder of Women's Intimacy After Injury Community. Lisa will share how there’s more to sex than intercourse and genital orgasm, how there is more to sex than just returning to the way it was before, utilizing your five senses that would enhance your sexual pleasure, and identifying new areas in your body that could help achieve orgasm. “Sexuality for men after a spinal cord injury” - Tuesday, Oct. 27th - 5-6 p.m. PT: Led by Rafe Eric Briggs, PhD, Certified Master Somatic Coach, you will learn:
• How body image affects our sexuality and intimate relationships
• Reproductive health and maintaining sexual well-being for men with SCI
• How to communicate your sexual needs and desires
• Sexual response for men with SCI
• Maintaining erections, ejaculation and orgasm
• Positioning for sexual activity after SCI
• Sexual aids and toys for men with SCI
• Dating with SCI during COVID-19

• Toys to use during sex
• Oral sex
• Using the five senses
