U2FP's CureCast podcast interview: clinical trials of Neuro-Spinal Scaffold for the treatment of acute SCI

As part of our ongoing support of United 2 Fight Paralysis and their library of podcast interviews with individuals involved in the field of advancing spinal cord injury cures, this week, we’re presenting a recorded interview with Dr. Richard Toselli, the President, CEO and CMO at Invivo Therapeutics. Invivo has developed and is trialing its Neuro-Spinal Scaffold for the treatment of Spinal Cord Injury in the acute setting. Listen to it HERE.

Before you get excited and start asking where can you sign up for the trials, they are available only to those with a thoracic injury and who are within a week from their injury. Here’s how the scaffold works. When left untreated, a cavity will typically develop at the injury site, cutting off transmission of neural signals from the brain to all body parts below the injury. The scaffold is implanted at the site of damage within one week of spinal cord injury with the goal of supporting neural regeneration and cell growth. It is designed to encourage functional cells to fill in that cavity. If achieved, this structural change within the spinal cord has the potential to improve sensory and motor function and lead to a better quality of life for patients.

Their current clinical trial involves 20 individuals with acute thoracic spinal cord injury. You can read more about it HERE.
