Route to parenthood: The Great Sperm Hunt

Studies have shown that only around 10% of men with spinal cord injuries are able to conceive naturally through intercourse. Thankfully for the other 90%, there are a myriad of options, each with varying levels of invasiveness, effectiveness and potential side effects. Men with paralysis usually experience a change in their ability to biologically father a child due to the inability to ejaculate. The number of sperm a man produces does not usually drop in the months or years after paralysis. However, the motility (movement) of the sperm is considerably lower than for non-paralyzed men.

Some men do experience retrograde ejaculation in which semen travels in reverse, back into the bladder. There are four options, though, for enhancing the ability to father children and in this article in New Mobility magazine, those options are discussed. You can read more about them HERE.
