Wheelchair-Accessible Minivan Available Free to a Neighbor in Need!

Are you or someone you know in need of accessible transportation? A generous local donor is offering a free accessible minivan to a Northern California resident with a spinal cord injury who genuinely needs it. NorCal SCI is helping connect the donor with the right person by screening applications to find the candidate who will benefit the most.

Vehicle Overview & Features

This converted minivan includes several key accessible features:

  • Model & Year: 2008 Toyota Sienna (Gold)

  • Mileage: Just over 85,000 miles

  • Wheelchair Accessibility: Removable driver and front passenger seats, allowing a wheelchair user to drive or ride as a passenger.

  • Securement Systems: Integrated EZ Lock docking systems in both the driver and front passenger positions.

  • Adaptive Equipment: Hand controls with a spinner knob.

  • Condition & Maintenance: Runs well and received new tires in 2022.

Important Details & Maintenance Note

Please review the following condition and transfer requirements before applying:

  • Ramp Service Required: The electric ramp currently needs minor repairs. The donor estimates repair costs at roughly $1,000 to $2,000. Servicing can be handled through Mobility Works in San Jose ((408) 831-7443, Service Manager Jonathan), where diagnostic testing starts at $217 per hour plus the cost of repair.

  • Pickup Location: The van is located in San Carlos, California. The selected recipient must be able to travel to San Carlos to meet the donor and collect the vehicle.

  • Smog Status: Smog certification status is currently unknown and will be the responsibility of the recipient.

Application & Screening Process

All submissions will be carefully reviewed, with priority given to Northern California residents who show the greatest need for an accessible vehicle. Applicants should be prepared to share details about their current transportation challenges, and qualified candidates may be asked to participate in a follow-up phone call. Applicants may also be requested to provide proof of income or financial need during the screening process to verify eligibility.

Disclaimer & Responsibility Notice

NorCal SCI is solely assisting with screening applications to connect the donor with a recipient. NorCal SCI does not take ownership or possession of the vehicle, does not facilitate the physical transfer or mechanical inspection, and assumes no liability, responsibility, or financial obligation for vehicle condition, repairs, safety, title transfer, or maintenance. The transaction and vehicle transfer will occur directly between the private donor and the selected recipient.
