Through November 15: Rent the Freedom Trax for Free at Doran Park
Exploring the shoreline at Doran Regional Park is about to get a whole lot smoother for manual wheelchair users. Following a successful summer pilot program, Sonoma County Regional Parks has expanded its accessible equipment lineup by offering Freedom Trax motorized track devices for free by reservation on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays through November 15.
This equipment allows manual wheelchair users to attach their own chair directly onto the track system, giving them the independence to navigate across thick sand and enjoy the ocean breeze without getting stuck.
At NorCal SCI, we know firsthand just how transformative this technology can be for outdoor recreation. We were thrilled to partner with the Freedom Trax team for a beach day event, where community members got to test out the devices and experience hassle-free beach access. Seeing local parks adopt these devices permanently is a huge win for mobility and independence along our coastline.
In addition to the Freedom Trax devices, Doran Beach continues to offer traditional beach wheelchairs and all-terrain walkers free of charge on a first-come, first-served basis year-round. If you want to check out the Freedom Trax system before winter arrives, reserve a device online before the fall program ends on November 15. Equipment reservations will resume again in the spring after the winter storm season.
