Free Monthly Wheelchair Repair Clinics Begin August 15th!

Tired of waiting for your insurance DME provider to make minor repairs/replacements of your wheelchair? Missed our initial repair clinic in May?

We’re excited to announce that starting in August, NorCal SCI will collaborate with Archer Bicycle to provide FREE monthly wheelchair repair clinics at Archer Bicycle in downtown Oakland from 2-6pm.

This is your chance to bring your wheelchair in for maintenance and minor repairs, free of charge. Please read through the below details before you book your slot as there are important details to be aware of.

This clinic will be primarily for manual wheelchairs. Greg – volunteer mechanic – will not be able to do any work on batteries or electronic components. If you need minor (non electronic) work on your power wheelchair, please contact Greg directly to see if he can do those repairs.

Below are examples of the kinds of maintenance that can be performed at the clinic:

- Adjusting wheel locks/brakes

- Changing/replacing tires/tubes

- Replacing castors/bearings (that you bring)

- Installing replacement parts (that you bring)

- Adjusting air inflated cushions

- Making other mechanical minor adjustments

***Greg does not stock wheelchair parts so you will be responsible to bring your own replacement parts/equipment

IMPORTANT NOTES:

  1. The shop is wheelchair accessible. However there is no restroom onsite.

  2. There is street parking nearby and the shop is 1 block from the 12 St BART station.

  3. You will need to transfer independently (or with help from your own family/caregiver) onto a chair and remain there during the repair time. We will not be able to provide transfer assistance.

  4. First come first served. Reserve your slot below as they’ll go fast!

  5. Please be on time for your time slot! Our team and our volunteer mechanic are setting personal time aside to run this clinic. We’d like to have this run smoothly so we can do more clinics in the future!

To reserve your spot, please email or call Greg at Archer Bicycles directly:
