SCI Connections Special Event: “Driving with a Disability” - Dinner and Presentation 9/3 @ 5:30pm

Regaining independence behind the wheel after a life-altering injury or diagnosis is one of the most empowering milestones on the road to recovery. On Thursday, September 3, SCI Connections is proud to bring you "Driving with a Disability," an inspiring and practical evening dedicated to helping individuals with physical, sensory, or cognitive challenges safely navigate the path back to driving confidence. Coordinated by the NorCal SCI, along with the Rehabilitation Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, this event brings together expert knowledge, community support, and real-world solutions—completely FREE of charge!

To make the evening even better, a complimentary dinner will be provided for all attendees! Doors open at 5:30 p.m., giving everyone time to arrive, relax, and enjoy a warm meal together before the presentation begins at 6:00 p.m.

The main presentation features guest speaker Kevin Lowrey, whose remarkable journey exemplifies resilience and leadership. After sustaining a T5 complete spinal cord injury in 1977, Kevin built a thriving life, competing in wheelchair basketball for 16 seasons and earning five selections to the USA Wheelchair Basketball Team. With over 45 years of hand-control driving experience and more than three decades in the mobility industry running his own company, Kevin offers an unparalleled blend of technical expertise and lived insight.

Attendees will gain practical guidance on adaptive driving equipment, vehicle modifications, evaluation resources, and legal licensing pathways. The 30-minute presentation will be followed by an interactive 15-minute Q&A session where attendees can ask questions and explore options tailored to their specific needs.

The event takes place at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center's Valley Specialty Center in the Basement Conference Room (751 S. Bascom Ave., San Jose, CA). Admission and dinner are entirely free, and a live webcast option is also available for those unable to join in person.
