Take a Deep Breath for SCI Research: Join the UC Davis Respiratory Study
Improving respiratory strength can make a major impact on daily health, independence, and overall quality of life. Researchers at UC Davis Health are launching a new clinical study to test whether a simple, handheld breathing device can boost lung function for individuals living with higher-level spinal cord injuries—and you can help lead the way.
What the Study Involves
Simple Home Routine: Use "The Breather," a compact device that provides gentle resistance when you inhale and exhale, right from home twice a day for 6 weeks.
Progress Tracking: Researchers will measure your lung function and breathing strength before and after the 6-week period to track your progress.
Real Impact: Help advance vital SCI research while working toward personal gains like stronger cough effectiveness, reduced shortness of breath, and improved breathing control!
Who Can Participate
Age 18 or older
Living with a chronic spinal cord injury (sustained at least 2 years ago)
Injury level C8 or above, classified as AIS Grade A or B
Currently experiencing reduced breathing strength or lung function
