All Smiles & Sunshine at our Adaptive Kayaking & Community Event at Vasona Park

Adaptive kayakers using the accessible dock at Vasona Lake, Los Gatos - May 31st

For the 4th year in a row, NorCal SCI hosted a social event focused on bringing together the SCI community and sharing the unique, wheelchair accessible dock and kayaking program available at Vasona Lake in Los Gatos.

We had over 45 attendees join us on May 31st to try adaptive kayaking, socialize with old friends and new, enjoy our hosted lunch, and take part in this fun and rewarding event. For many, it was their first experience kayaking post injury and for others, it was an opportunity to get back out on the water and paddle around the gorgeous surroundings.

We were very fortunate to have Ron Lee from Matia Mobility showcasing the Tek RMD standing mobility system available for people to try. It was awesome seeing wheelchair users rolling around in a standing position, enjoying the scenery and socializing. In addition, we had Christina Morgan from Bioness Medical and she was letting people try the H200 device with functional electrical stimulation (FES) to support recovery.

The weather was beautiful and we had a great time meeting everyone. NorCal SCI Board Member Dan Scrivner organized the event and was on hand along with Board Members Dave Greenfield, John Looper, and Executive Director Arash to meet our community in person. We absolutely cherish these opportunities and it was great meeting our community members who came from the immediate area and as far as Monterey and Petaluma.

Thank you to all our attendees, family members, and volunteers who stepped up to make this a special day.

And remember that Adaptive Kayaking is available at Vasona Lake throughout the summer so please don't hesitate to go back and do it all again on your own!  There is always help to get you into the kayak. You can book your slot HERE
